ADOPT A SISTER SCHOOL IN PERU

The Hapu People have one small, state-sponsored school in the village of Hapu Grande, the largest of the sectores (hamlets) of the Hapu Q’ero people, but very few children are able to attend this school. Most of the people live in distant sectores from Hapu Grande. To walk from Cochemarca, Yanaruma, or Lekepata sectores would take a child two or more hours each way, so the majority of children in the tribe do not attend school. All but the youngest are needed at home for daily chores. Each of the sectores has asked for support to open a small school so all children can be educated.

Each school will have a single teacher to work with ten to twenty-five children aged four to ten years. Because the government will not fund these schools, each sectore will need help to pay the teacher’s salary ($300 per month) and to provide the school with books, teaching materials, and student supplies.

HWF seeks schools that want to form partnerships to “adopt” a village school to assist with fundraising and donation of used educational materials. Contact us to discuss possibilities.
